Moral Inventory Reflection
Part of Step 4 — read the full step
A Fourth Step resentment inventory is a written list of the people, places and ideas we resent, set out in columns: who, what happened, what it affected in us, and our own part. Here we can write one resentment at a time and, if we want, get a short reflection on it. The full inventory still happens on paper, with a sponsor.
A reflection written by AI to support your own Step 4 work — not a stand-in for a sponsor or a counselor. If you’re in distress right now, please call or text 988, or call SAMHSA at 1-800-662-4357.
Write one resentment — get a Step 4 reflection
Step 4 asks us to write. This is a small start: share one resentment — just a sentence or two — and receive a reflection grounded in Big Book principles. This is not a substitute for working with a sponsor.
When you tap Get reflection, what you wrote is sent to Anthropic’s AI, which writes the reply. We don’t keep a copy.

Common questions
- What is a Step 4 resentment inventory?
- It's the first part of the Fourth Step. The Big Book (pages 64–67) sets out columns for who we resent, the cause, and what it affected in us, then asks where we had been selfish, dishonest, self-seeking and frightened. Many of us write that as a fourth column: our part. Fears and conduct get their own inventories after that.
- What does this tool do?
- We write down one resentment. If we ask, the site sends what we wrote to an AI and shows a short reflection grounded in the Big Book. It's written by AI, it isn't a sponsor or a counselor, and it's one entry, not a whole Fourth Step.
- Is what we write kept?
- The site doesn't save it. If we ask for a reflection, what we wrote for the tool is sent to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI, so it can write a reply; we don't keep a copy. Initials work better than full names.
- Where can we get printable Fourth Step worksheets?
- The Step 4 worksheets page has free PDFs for the resentment, fear and conduct inventories, plus a checklist. They download straight to the device with no sign-up.
