Step 3 · Made a Decision
The Third Step Prayer
Step Three is a decision: to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. The Big Book offers these words for making that decision out loud.
Nobody has to use them. The Book says plainly that the wording is ours to choose. Many of us still come back to this prayer, because it says the thing we found hardest to say: take the self out of the driver's seat.
God, I offer myself to Thee—to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy bidding. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!

How many of us use it
Many of us said it for the first time with a sponsor, the way the Book suggests — with another person who understood.
Some of us say it every morning. Some of us say it only when we notice self-will running the show again.
If the word "God" is a sticking point, Step Two is where we work that out. The prayer can wait.
